Potato Growing Challenge in Jamberoo, New South Wales
Thirty seven participants took part in the annual challenge. Each person purchased one certified seed potato from the one local supplier.
Potatoes were planted out in Spring and dug up in late January. The potatoes were weighed and recorded for the competition.
The winners were announced at the Potato Dinner held in February. Winning crop of potatoes weighed in at 7.675 kg. One of the potatoes weighed in at 1.2 kg. This crop had been grown in soil that had been conditioned using Remin rock dust prior to planting.
A handful of the rock dust had been thrown over the potato plant to help ward off insects.
The winning crop was 2.5 kg heavier than the second place getter.
